Ticker.app for Puppy - Dotpup by puppian - Sep 17, 2005

Click the icon in /usr/local/apps/ticker (or type ticker2 in the shell) to run Ticker.app

Drag the icon to the desktop if you want a shortcut. Right click for help

Installs in /usr/local/apps/ticker

Old version is still available as /usr/local/apps/ticker/ticker (this new one is ticker2)

If you have Icedock (available as DotPup) installed, Ticker can scroll headlines in it (recommended!)
Click UP button to show/hide the popup window, RIGHT button to show next headline.
Control viewing area by dragging the horizontal scrollbar or the mouse wheel.
Middle click the border to close.

Add the lines below to /root/.icewm/winoptions will put ticker to the tray:
ticker.app.ignoreTaskBar: 1
gtkdialog.tray: Exclusive

If you want to close the first RSS when a new RSS is started, click the dog buttons and
uncommend the line "killall ticker.app".


To change color:
  1. Click the dog button
  2. Change the words after "-fg" and "-bg" in the last line of the opened file. More options:
ticker.app [OPTIONS]
  -f,  --file <file>            file to display
  -t,  --tail                   run the application in tail mode
  -d,  --display <string>       display to use
  -fg, --foreground <color>     foreground color (white is default)
  -bg, --background <color>     background color (rgb:52/52/52 is defalt)
  -p,  --popup                  run the application with popup window
  -pp, --popup-pos [+|-]x[+|-]y position of popup window
  -fn, --font <fontname>        font to use
  -fp, --font-popup <fontname>  font to use in popup window
  -sf, --speed-fast             fast scrolling
  -ss, --speed-slow             slow scrolling
  -bw, --broken-wm              activate broken window manager fix
  -h,  --help                   show this help text and exit
  -v,  --version                show program version and exit
  -w,  --windowed               runs the application in windowed mode


To add news:
  1. Click the dog button next to My News 1, My News 2 or My News 3
  2. Change the url in the line URL=http://news.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_uk_edition/front_page/rss.xml
  3. Save the file and you're done!
