Beware of hype. When promotional material starts shouting about advanced features without saying what they are, head for the door.

But not this time -- we are happy to list our advanced features:

Long packets and sliding windows.

The ability to send 8-bit data through a 7-bit channel, at all.
Locking shifts: The ability to send 8-bit data through a 7-bit channel efficiently.
Control-character prefixing, to ensure the data gets through.
Control-character unprefixing to speed up your transfers.
Data compression.
Record-format conversion for text files.
Character-set conversion for text files (a UNIQUE feature of the Kermit protocol).
Client/Server functions.
File transfer recovery,
Auto upload, auto download, auto configuration, auto anything else.

All of these features are found in Kermit 95, C-Kermit, MS-DOS Kermit, and most of them are also in IBM Mainframe Kermit. Very few of them are ever found in commercial and shareware Kermit protocol implementations.
